On the evening of March 13th, flowing into the 14th, the yearly blood moon arrives with some heavy energy this year. Not only will most of us in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, parts of eastern South America, Alaska, and Antarctica witness a total lunar eclipse, but there will also be a partial solar eclipse, which is expected to create a “horn” appearance. This will be mostly visible in the eastern United States and parts of Europe. The last time this happened was in 2018, and this is an important time for those of us who practice magick—especially for those of us typically left out of these spiritual articles, the practitioners of the left-hand path (or black magick).
Since there will no doubt be a pile of lighthearted, fluffy ritual guides coming into the blood moon, I thought it was only fair to contribute a write-up for my friends who may have a hex or two to exact—for good reason, of course.
The Full Moon and Black Magick
The full moon holds a profound significance for practitioners of black magick and the dark arts, serving as a powerful catalyst for transformation and empowerment. During this luminous phase, the moon's energy is at its peak, amplifying the potency of spells and rituals. For those who delve into the shadows, the full moon is an ideal time for working with intentions related to personal power, protection, and manifestation of desires. The radiant light illuminates the darker aspects of one's psyche, allowing practitioners to confront and harness their inner demons, channeling these energies into their magickal workings. It is a time for deep introspection and a reminder that embracing one's shadow self can lead to profound growth and self-discovery.
Moreover, the full moon serves as a sacred time for connecting with the natural forces that govern the universe. Practitioners often engage in rituals that invoke lunar deities, entities (demons), or spirits associated with the night, fostering a deeper relationship with them. The full moon acts as a portal, bridging the physical and spiritual realms, allowing for enhanced communication with the unseen. This heightened awareness can lead to revelations and insights that guide practitioners on their path. The full moon also encourages the release of negativity and old patterns, as its bright light reveals what must be let go to make space for new beginnings. In this way, the full moon becomes not just a time for celebration, but a significant opportunity for transformation and alignment with the darker aspects of magick.
The Lunar Eclipse on The Left Hand Path
A lunar eclipse holds profound significance as it symbolizes a powerful moment of transformation and release. During this celestial event, the Earth casts its shadow over the Moon, creating an atmosphere of heightened energy and mystical potential. For those who work with dark magick, the lunar eclipse is an ideal time to engage in banishing rituals, shedding unwanted influences, and breaking free from emotional or spiritual bindings. The obscured light of the Moon serves as a reminder that darkness can be a source of strength, allowing practitioners to confront their fears and embrace the hidden aspects of their psyche. This period of shadow invites deep introspection, making it an optimal time to delve into the subconscious and confront the truths that often lurk in the dark.
Furthermore, a lunar eclipse amplifies the connection between the practitioner and the cosmic forces at play, creating an opening for potent magickal workings. It is a time to harness the eclipse's energy for spells that require the release of negativity or the cutting of ties that no longer serve one's purpose. As the Moon's light wanes, practitioners can focus on what they wish to eliminate from their lives, channeling their intentions into the eclipse's transformative energy. Additionally, lunar eclipses are often seen as moments of initiation, where new paths can emerge from the shadows. This duality of release and rebirth allows practitioners to not only let go of the old but also to embrace new possibilities that arise from the depths of darkness. In essence, a lunar eclipse serves as a powerful reminder that in darkness lies the potential for profound change and regeneration.
The Solar Eclipse in a Magickal Practice
A solar eclipse represents a potent moment of transformation and empowerment. During this rare celestial event, the Moon obscures the Sun, creating an atmosphere charged with mysterious energy. This temporary darkness is seen as a powerful symbol of the unseen forces that govern the universe, making it an ideal time for practitioners to tap into their inner strength and harness the energy of the void. The solar eclipse is often associated with new beginnings, making it a prime opportunity for setting intentions and initiating new projects or endeavors. Practitioners may utilize this time to perform rituals that invoke protection, personal power, and the manifestation of desires, as the eclipsed Sun can amplify the potency of their magickal workings.
Moreover, the solar eclipse serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of existence, emphasizing the importance of balance between light and dark. For those who work within the realms of black magick, this balance is crucial, as it allows for the exploration of both the light and shadow aspects of one's nature. The obscured Sun creates a unique opportunity to confront and embrace the darker facets of the self, fostering growth and understanding. During this time, practitioners may engage in rituals that encourage self-reflection, shadow work, and the release of limiting beliefs. The solar eclipse acts as a gateway for transformation, inviting practitioners to step into their power and emerge renewed, ready to navigate the intricate dance of light and dark that defines their magickal practice.
Clearly, the combination that is coming is going to offer us a lot to work with. Even if you do not stringently perform rituals or utilize the moon phases monthly, this one is one you probably should not miss. For me personally, this will be an entire day and night of work. I plan to focus on tool-making, cleansing, and charging. Any jars I have on the roster to be made for a client will be completed, especially those with malevolent intentions. And of course, I have my own personal tasks to attend to. If your work involves dark entities or demonolatry, I would definitely recommend harnessing this energy. Have you been having difficulty connecting with a particular spirit? Here’s your chance.
The connection between moon phases and demonology is deeply rooted in various cultural and spiritual traditions, where the lunar cycle is believed to influence the energies of the universe and the behavior of both celestial and infernal beings. Historically, many cultures viewed the moon as a powerful symbol of transformation, mysticism, and the ebb and flow of spiritual forces. In demonology, specific moon phases are thought to enhance the potency of rituals involving demons, as the changing light of the moon can amplify the intentions behind spellwork and summonings. For instance, the new moon is often associated with new beginnings and the invocation of darker entities, while the full moon is considered a time of heightened power, making it ideal for workings that require strong energy and clarity, such as banishings or confrontations with malevolent forces.
Spiritually, the moon serves as a conduit between the earthly realm and the otherworldly, allowing practitioners of demonology to tap into its phases for guidance and strength. Each phase carries its unique attributes: the waxing moon represents growth and manifestation, making it suitable for attracting demonic allies, while the waning moon symbolizes release and protection, lending itself to banishing unwanted influences. This cyclical relationship highlights the belief that demons, often seen as embodiments of primal forces, resonate with the moon’s energy, thus creating a dynamic interplay between lunar phases and spiritual power. By aligning their practices with the lunar cycle, practitioners can enhance their connection to these entities, deepening their understanding of the shadows and the transformative nature of both the moon and the demons that dwell within those realms. You can take this even further and hone into those who are directly related to the moon as their planetary alignment. However, this particular celestial event will facilitate literally any of the dark spirits you have in mind.
Friends, this is definitely a time to dust off those old grimoires and polish up your casting skills. Make good work of this rare event and embrace every available moment of it. I plan to write more on this topic for the remainder of the month, and into March. I will likely add some rituals and spells that facilitate our more adverse paths. It’s tough to find many outlets where the door is open to you. Mine is.
